LDN6 LED Recessed Downlight

The LDN6 works with most TRIAC (leading-edge) and ELV (electronic low-voltage) dimmers rated for LED loads. We recommend dimmers specifically labeled for LED compatibility from manufacturers like Lutron, Leviton, and Legrand.

Older incandescent-only dimmers may cause flickering or limited dimming range. Check that your dimmer supports the total wattage of all LDN6 fixtures on the circuit—each fixture draws 14 watts. For best performance, consult our online compatibility chart or test your existing dimmer before installing multiple fixtures.

Select 3000K warm white for residential spaces like bedrooms, living rooms, and dining areas where you want a cozy, inviting atmosphere similar to traditional incandescent lighting. Choose 4000K neutral white for kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and retail environments where accurate color rendering and alert task lighting matter.

Opt for 5000K daylight in workshops, garages, laundry rooms, and commercial spaces requiring maximum visibility and focus. The color temperature doesn’t affect brightness or energy consumption—all LDN6 models deliver the same lumen output regardless of temperature selection.

The LDN6 works safely in IC-rated (insulation contact) recessed housings designed for direct insulation contact. The die-cast aluminum housing dissipates heat efficiently even when surrounded by insulation, maintaining optimal operating temperatures.

When installing in new construction, pair the LDN6 with IC-rated housings approved for insulation contact. For retrofit applications, verify that your existing housing carries an IC rating before covering with insulation. Non-IC housings require a 3-inch clearance from insulation to prevent overheating.

The integrated LED module in the LDN6 is rated for 50,000 hours of operation, which equals approximately 17 years of use at 8 hours per day. Unlike older recessed lights with replaceable bulbs, the LED module is permanently integrated into the fixture assembly.

This design eliminates the need for bulb replacement and reduces long-term maintenance costs. At end of life, the entire fixture is replaced—a simple process thanks to the tool-free installation system. The 50,000-hour rating represents L70 lifespan, meaning the fixture will still produce at least 70% of its original lumen output at rated life.

The LDN6 carries a damp location rating, making it suitable for bathrooms including shower ceilings, covered porches, and other areas exposed to moisture but not direct water spray. The sealed LED module and housing protect against humidity and condensation.

For outdoor installations, ensure the fixture remains protected from direct rain exposure under roof overhangs or covered entryways. Do not install in fully wet locations like open patios or areas subject to direct water jets. In bathroom installations above showers, use with IC-rated airtight housings to prevent moisture migration into ceiling cavities.

For general ambient lighting in rooms with 8 to 10-foot ceilings, space LDN6 fixtures 4 to 6 feet apart in a grid pattern. A 12×16-foot room typically requires 6 to 9 fixtures for even illumination, while kitchens benefit from closer 4-foot spacing to eliminate shadows over work surfaces.

The 1000-lumen output from each LDN6 provides approximately 35 to 50 foot-candles directly below the fixture at standard ceiling heights. For task-intensive areas, reduce spacing; for ambient-only applications like bedrooms, you can increase spacing slightly.
